Welcome to Morar Lodge’s Sept and October Highlights
Welcome to another edition of life at Morar Lodge Nursing Home! As we embrace the autumn season, we reflect on a month filled with activity, laughter, and a remarkable sense of community in beautiful Helensburgh.
The Big Scottish Breakfast Fundraiser
Imagine heading off to school on a cold morning without breakfast or lunch — how can one focus on learning? The STV Children’s Appeal works hard to remedy this situation by funding healthy breakfasts for children across Scotland. In solidarity with this cause, Morar Lodge organized the Big Scottish Breakfast Fundraiser. Our talented chefs whipped up a scrumptious full Scottish breakfast, featuring bacon, eggs, tattie scones, and beans. The Helensburgh community came out in great numbers, and thanks to the generosity of attendees, we raised over £300! This vital contribution will directly aid children across Scotland in starting their day well. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this event a resounding success!

Engaging Activities: Exercise and More
Every Thursday morning, residents participate in a live-streamed seated exercise session with the energetic team from Burn’s Gym, affectionately known as the “men in kilts.” These sessions provide an enjoyable atmosphere that enhances fitness, camaraderie, and laughter while ensuring everyone remains active in a safe environment.Tea with a Pony: A Delightful Experience
On Sept 24th, a group of our residents enjoyed a memorable visit to a local livery stable, watching a magnificent pony perform dressage before meeting several gentle horses. The day culminated in a delightful tea party complete with sandwiches and cakes, surrounded by our new equine friends. It was a wonderfully enriching experience that we look forward to repeating early next year!

Short Sweet
On Monday 29th September we were wonderfully entertained by the husband-and-wife duo, ‘Short & Sweet’.
They sang a wide selection of songs, some old Scottish ballads, some more modern pop music, but everyone was a familiar tune, and residents took great delight in joining in with the singing. We sounded good, had a great time, and raised the rafters!
Cruachan comes a-calling…….
We have a new member of staff – introducing Cruachan, a therapy dog and very welcome addition to our family here at Morar Lodge.
Owned by one of our wonderful chefs, Sara, Cruachan is a calm and gentle giant, padding softly around the lounges and bedrooms, introducing himself to our residents and enjoying a pat or simply curling up quietly and being great company.
We hope to see lots more of you, Cruachan!
